The BLACK BOXr Serial Console Port Manager has taken matrix switching technology one step further. The 8-port and 16-port Serial Console Port Managers provide 115.2-kbps data throughput and full flow control to handle the higher speeds of today's newer and faster data-communication equipment. They're perfect for connecting multiple RS-232 devices for on-site and dialup remote access!
Natural selection, simple operation. With the Serial Console Port Manager, you can access each port individually by port number or assigned name (such as Router 1), and any port can select any other port. Mix and match PCs and peripherals in any combination for maximum flexibility.
Each port is configurable for data rate, parity, flow control, and other parameters. That means you can connect to a device that requires a special configuration without resetting the communications parameters of all other devices. The Save Setup command downloads unit parameters for storage to disk for simple reconfiguration or for special configurations.
Four port modes for a versatile creation!
Each port can be set to one of four modes: Modem Mode, Any-to-Any Mode, Buffer Mode, or Passive Mode.
Modem Mode is used to manage a high-speed modem connected to the Serial Console Port Manager. It enables the password protection, inactivity time-out, and command strings. Plus, Modem Mode protects the switch and network elements from unauthorized access.
Any-to-Any Mode uses the full-matrix capability of the switch to connect any port to any other port on the switch.
Buffer Mode sets individual ports for the collection and storage of "snapshot" data, such as alarms or notification messages.
Passive Mode causes a port to ignore any commands coming from a connected device, but enables another port to connect to the device via Any-to-Any Mode.
